Why join Hogan Whitney Pond Association (HWPA)?

HWPA’s mission is to protect the water quality in Hogan and Whitney Ponds for use by future generations through education, monitoring, community engagement, and problem remediation.

Annual Dues & Donations

Your Contributions:

Your contributions allow us to monitor water quality; protect the watershed from erosion and water degradation; monitor and remove invasive plants; keep the community informed of our work via educational programs, fliers, our Facebook page, and participate in a range of statewide programs like LakeSmart and an annual loon survey.

**HWPA is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies solely on your contributions and grants to fund our work. All contributions are tax-deductible.**

Projects Your HWPA Membership Supports:

  • Watershed Protection and Remediation – Two-year grant from DEP to document and remediate soil erosion problems as a means to improve the health of the watershed.
  • Invasives / Milfoil Removal – Contracted divers pull unwanted plants annually with financial support from DEP.
  • Water Clarity Measurements – 50 years of volunteer efforts to measure water clarity in Whitney and Hogan Ponds.
  • Scientific Water Quality Assessments – Every two years a scientist conducts extensive analyses of pond quality and writes a report.

  • LakeSmart Program – Free evaluation of lakefront properties and suggestions for reducing erosion/unwanted water-runoff.
  • Invasive Plant Monitoring – Local volunteers do annual inspections documenting invasive plants.
  • Annual Loon Survey – Volunteers do an annual count to assess the health of the population and their watershed environment.
  • Community Education – Fliers, workshops, meeting reports, and website postings.
  • Inter-Agency Collaboration – We join forces with the town, Oxford County Soil & Amp; Water Conservation District, and other lake groups to learn from and help each other.
  • Welchville Dam Controls – Collaborate with the town to better manage water levels.
