HWPA is actively involved in actions that directly work toward environmental sustainability of the watershed surrounding our two fragile ponds. Indeed, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection has formally classified the two ponds as “threatened.” But the above work is only part of what we do. We clearly see the value in educating the larger community about the importance of our efforts, and are committed to finding new ways to build this less visible but no less important aspect of our work. Part of that effort has been the development of the HWPA website. Another part is providing details of our efforts at HWPA annual meetings, fliers, and handouts, as well as press releases and word-of-mouth. Finally, we have developed a curriculum which we hope to trial with a local class of elementary-aged students, which may be able to be scaled up at a future time more widely. We are always open to finding new avenues to get the word out about this important work.
